Remembering Patricia Small, 61, whose home was “a mix of Leave it to Beaver and Married With Childre

This is from our local paper about mom.

Patricia Small spent her life making her home a refuge for those in need. Over the years her children knew no cause was too great or obstacle too difficult for her to overcome.

Mrs. Small, a Wilmington resident fondly remembered for her quick wit and contagious smile, died Feb. 11, 2014, at the age of 61.

She didn’t decide to start adopting cats – they showed up on their own accord and she refused to turn them away. Camille Deruise, Mrs. Small’s adopted daughter, remembers the cats being mostly black, turned away out of superstition but welcomed into Mrs. Small’s home.

Once neighbors and friends found out about Mrs. Small’s love of animals they brought her hamsters, rabbits, squirrels, snakes and dogs, too. Most of these animals stayed at Mrs. Small’s home and Ms. Deruise said she was very particular about who she allowed to adopt the animals.

Although she was known as “endearingly sweet,” Ms. Deruise remembers her fondly as “a smarty pants.”

Mrs. Small adopted Ms. Deruise into her home when she was a teenager and Ms. Deruise remembers an overwhelming feeling of home.

“It was like mixing ‘Leave it to Beaver’ with a little bit of ‘Married With Children’,” Ms. Deruise said.

She never felt like a guest in Mrs. Small’s home, even on that very first night.

“She was awesome to talk to about parental wisdom without being parental about it,” Ms. Deruise said, adding Mrs. Small taught her by example how to be a mother.

Mrs. Small went above and beyond during the holidays and Ms. Deruise fondly remembers a red, white and blue Mrs. Small blasting “America, the Beautiful” in the front yard, a BBQ going in the back and fireworks ready for nightfall. Each Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Patriot’s Day were celebrated with the same enthusiasm and “USA pride.”

Ms. Deruise frequently enjoyed homemade meals as well. Mrs. Small would fix huge breakfasts with eggs, bacon, waffles, grits and biscuits. For dessert there were donut holes and cake with the best frosting Ms. Deruise had ever tasted.

“She could cook twelve things at once and everything would be done at the same time,” Ms. Deruise said.

Along with Mrs. Small’s generous nature came a protective instinct and fiery temper thanks to her red hair, according to her children.

“My mother embodied the definition of ‘spirited,’” Donald “Donnie” Wayne Small, Jr., Mrs. Small’s son, said. She listened to both sides of a story and “she wasn’t afraid to come to someone else’s defense if they were being wronged.”

“She taught me how to stick up for myself–the little man. She never backed down,” Mr. Small said.

Mr. Small now carries the strength he learned from his mother and cherishes it

What to say about 2012. So much happened. Cruise in June Mixtape festival in August did that VIP Mom fell and broke her hip in October and now starting tomorrow tax season begins. May 2013 be just as fun with no injuries to anyone.

It is amazing to me how people who are suppose to be family and love you unconditionally can end up being the bad guys.

I am sorry to report

That sadly Amendment 1 passed with flying color here in NC today.

Amendment One, erroneously described as a referendum on same-sex marriage. For people that pay attention Same- sex marriage was banned in NC last year without it is even making the news with the passing of this law it renders civil unions and domestic partnerships ineligible for legal protection.

So in other words if I had the hankering to do so I can marry my first cousin but I cant find somebody and live with a person that I love and want to spend the rest of my life without it breaking the law. We would have no rights to each other at all so if they worked somewhere they offered health insurance for domestic partners in NC you wouldnt be covered, if we did break the law and live in the same house together they could raise their hand to me or I to them and thanks to this law being in effect a Domestic Violence order couldnt be issued.

If we have children together that child has no rights for health insurance or to a name since they were not born to a wedded couple.

So thank you NC for showing how backwards you are and how much you care for your fellow man, woman and children that live her and not want to have a piece of paper that says they are legally allowed to be together.

Vote No on Amendment 1

I usually keep my political views to myself since Daddy always told me the two things you never talk about in polite company are politics and religion. Well this is going to touch on both.

This week NC is going to the polls for early voting the main contention on the ballot is Amendment 1 for those that live on the bible belt such as me you know how the churches can be. They are trying to make it seems as if Amendment 1 is about Gay Rights in NC however it is only a real small part of the law.

Yeah I dont think so  )

So where in there does this law even possibly look like a good thing as a domestic violence survivor I dont like the sound of this at all.

The Mindgamer
Everything is possible, nothing is ever really over.

Fanfiction is a creative outlet for you. You don't intentionally write it, it just happens. You find inspiration in several fandoms, but are not obsessed with only one.

You like to explore "what if" situations. What if this character had never made this very choice? What if this event had taken place sooner, never, elsewhere? What if these people had never met?

You are likely to write Alternative Universes, fan seasons or sequels and just follow your (sometimes pretty strange) plot bunnies.
